Student Story

Ethan McCarthy โ€™25 chose Houghton because he wanted a Christ-centered college experience where he could combine his love of history, religion, French, and teaching all while gaining his teaching certifications two years earlier than his peers attending school in Canada. Pursuing a double major in Adolescent Education and History, Ethan has encountered the unique challenges of teaching in both rural and urban environments and is more committed than ever to providing his future students with the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs that are essential for their success inside and outside of the classroom. Ethanโ€™s dream job is to teach at a Catholic French Immersion School in his hometown in Ontario, Canada, as a way to give back to his community and inspire the next generation of Canadian students to value the French language and immersive style of education.
