President Lewis Discussed Freedom of Speech on Family Life Network

Houghton University President, Dr. Wayne D. Lewis, Jr., was recently interviewed by Greg Gillispie on the Family Life Network. In the interview, President Lewis responded to the current protests taking place on college campuses and the importance of true freedom of speech.

“College campuses are supposed to be dynamic places where people come with different perspectives and ideas…where students have the freedom and ability to express themselves…but there have to be parameters around what is permitted. As university administrators, we have to take measures to ensure the operation and mission of the institution are carried out even as we allow students to voice dissent. The opportunity to exercise your free speech is not the same as using hate speech, as harassment, as intimidation.”
