In partnership with the School of Pharmacy at D’Youville University, students have the opportunity to fulfill the requirements for both the BS and PharmD. The program entails completing three years of undergraduate study (99 credit hours) toward the BS in Biology with pre-health professional training (at Houghton University), then applies for admission to DYSOP to earn the PharmD degree.

Students must obtain a minimum 3.40 cumulative grade point average (GPA) in all prerequisite math and science courses by the end of their first year and then maintain this average throughout and until the end of their junior year, with a minimum of C in all prerequisite courses.

DYSOP annually offers up to 10 seats for qualified Houghton University students. If admitted into the PharmD program, all credits earned during the first year of the PharmD curriculum will be recognized by Houghton University and applied retroactively toward completion of the BS.

Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine (LECOM) will grant early acceptance for up to 5 Houghton students per year into LECOM’s school of pharmacy if they meet and maintain certain academic criteria. Students may also be exempt from taking the PCAT if their application portfolio meets the criteria for exemption.

The affiliation agreement will enable students who are US citizens to simultaneously apply to Houghton University and LECOM. If accepted into the program, the student will begin their education at Houghton and be provisionally accepted into LECOM. Students in the program must meet certain requirements including a competitive GPA and completion of a standard list of required classes. The LECOM agreement also has an option for an accelerated medical school program where top academic quality students can attend three years at Houghton and then move into LECOM a year early. Credit from their first year at LECOM School of Medicine allows them to receive a bachelor’s degree from Houghton University and also counts as their first year of medical school.

The Houghton program in pre-pharmacy, in partnership with the SUNY-University at Buffalo (UB), is a seven-year program resulting in a biology BA (at Houghton) and a PharmD (at UB). The program entails three years of study at Houghton and four years at UB.

Students in the program must meet UB academic requirements and interview for the program. The Houghton portion of the program includes coursework in biology, chemistry, physics and mathematics as well as a number of courses required for admission into the UB PharmD program. The Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) from UB is a professional degree program designed to prepare students to serve as contemporary, compassionate, creative and scholarly pharmacy practitioners, educators, researchers and leaders in the advancement of the pharmacy profession.

The curriculum consists of courses in basic biomedical sciences, clinical sciences, pharmaceutical sciences and pharmacy practice. The coursework is integrated with progressive patient-centered practice experiences with a focus on educating practitioners capable of providing care. It is capped by a nine-month experiential program.

This program in pharmacy leads to licensure in any state provided that the graduate passes and obtains licensure in the state requested.

Students who graduate or anticipate graduation from Houghton University in a pre-professional health track with pre-requisite coursework, are guaranteed admission into the D'Youville University's Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) (4+3) or Master's Degree in Occupational Therapy (OT MS) (4+3) programs.

Students pursuing guaranteed admission must submit a letter of intent to Houghton University by September 1 of the junior year of undergraduate study. These are competitive programs through this articulation. Your letter of intent does not guarantee a seat. A holistic review will occur of all interested students in the junior year by both Houghton and D’Youville programs.

All applicants must:

• Have official academic transcripts from ALL colleges and universities attended both undergraduate and graduate levels sent to D'Youville University.
• Meet all other admissions requirements and technical standards as defined in the academic catalog.
• Confer bachelor's degree prior to matriculation to graduate program.

For guaranteed admission to the DPT program at D'Youville University, applicant must:

• Have a minimum overall cumulative grade point average of 3.0.
• Have a 3.20 in all pre-requisite courses with no grade in any prerequisite course below a "B".
• Complete 60 hours of documented physical therapy observation hours prior to acceptance at D'Youville University.
• Complete a graduate application through the Physical Therapist Centralized Application Service (PTCAS) by deadlines posted on admission page.

For guaranteed admission to the OT MS program at D'Youville University, applicants must:

• Have a minimum overall cumulative grade point average of 3.0.
• Have a grade of "C" or better in all pre-requisite courses.
• Complete a graduate application through the Occupational Therapist Centralized Application Service (OTCAS) by deadlines posted on admission page.

The Bachelor's +3 DPT includes a bachelor's degree from Houghton University and the Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) from Messiah University. Houghton students can complete any undergraduate degree of their choice as long as they successfully complete the Messiah University DPT prerequisites. Two seats are reserved for qualified students based on their academics. See below:

Under the 3+3 articulation agreement between Houghton University and D’Youville University, students will complete three years of study in a pre-health profession program with pre-requisite courses (Biology-BA, others upon consultation with Pre-health Professions Director) at Houghton University and then matriculate into D’Youville University’s Nutrition and Dietetics didactic, pre-professional program (year 4) for 2 semesters.

Courses completed during the didactic, pre-professional program at D’Youville will transfer as credits towards completion of the Bachelors of Arts in Biology degree and fulfillment of the requirements for graduation from Houghton University. Students will earn a Biology BA from Houghton University. Students continue in the ACEND® accredited Nutrition and Dietetics Coordinated Program (CP) for 4 semesters (year 5 and year 6 of study). Upon successful completion of all coursework and supervised practice requirements students will earn a combined BS/MS in Nutrition and Dietetics and will be eligible to sit for the Commission on Dietetic Registration, Examination for Registered Dietitians Nutritionists.

Students pursuing guaranteed admission must submit a letter of intent to Houghton University by September 1 of the junior year of undergraduate study. Admission Criteria

To qualify for admission to the BS/MS in Nutrition and Dietetics Program at D’Youville University, Houghton University students must:

1. Complete the D’Youville admission application and submit an official Houghton University transcript.
2. Have a minimum cumulative Houghton University grade point average (GPA) of 2.50.
3. Meet all other admission standards set forth by D’Youville University in its university catalog.

Students who meet the admission criteria will receive an acceptance letter from D’Youville University. Students must verify their intent to enroll by making a deposit in the amount stipulated by the indicated due date on the acceptance letter.

In partnership with the Northeast College of Health Sciences (NECHS), formerly New York Chiropractic College (NYCC), Houghton undergraduate students that are interested in chiropractic medicine may obtain early acceptance into the DC program.

Students apply during their sophomore or junior year in order to obtain early acceptance into their DC program. Students pursing Biology (BIOL), Exercise Science (EXS), Chemistry (CHEM), and Biochemistry (BCHM), may qualify. Students must apply to NECHS within their first two years at Houghton of their intent to be eligible for direct acceptance. For those pursuing the BIOL, EXS, BCHM, or CHEM majors, students complete four years at Houghton University with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 and a minimum grade of ‘C’ on all required coursework.

For exceptional students, a 3+3 option is available to earn a BIOL or EXS degree in three years at Houghton, then begin three years of training at NECHS towards the DC degree. The GPA and course grade requirements are the same as the 4+3 program. Students who earn a GPA between 3.0 and 3.499 will be awarded the NYCC $1500 merit scholarship while those > 3.5 will be awarded the NYCC $2500 merit scholarship.

Earn your bachelors in biology or exercise science at Houghton University plus your doctoral degree in chiropractic in 7 years through our partnership with D’Youville University Department of Chiropractic.  This 3+4 program prepares you to enter the medical field as a healthcare professional through our rigorous academic coursework, intentional service-minded orientation, and a faith-based holistic approach all within the Christian liberal arts setting.

If you wish to pursue the 3+4 articulation pathway, you must submit a letter of intent to Houghton University by September 1 of your sophomore year. The Houghton Director of Pre-Health Professions will then notify the D’Youville University Executive Director of the Chiropractic Department of submitted letters of intent. You may also complete your bachelors in a different major in 4 years and be eligible for the 4+4 articulation. Both pathways require specific coursework, a grade of C or above in all science courses, and an overall GPA of 2.5 for consideration.
